World Cup Group E: Teams, Schedule, Outlook & Odds for 2026

Preview of Group E in the 2026 World Cup, featuring Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast and Curacao.

Germany headline a really competitive Group E, and are the clear favorites to win the Group and advance to the knockout stage unscathed.

Ecuador and the Ivory Coast are incredibly competent competitors and really hard teams to beat. Both teams cruised through their respective qualifying tournaments with the best defenses in the region.

The last team in the group, Curacao, have qualified for their first ever World Cup and have made soccer history by becoming the smallest nation by population to qualify for a FIFA World Cup.

The most exciting players from Group E are Germany's Florian Wirtz, Ecuador's Moises Caicedo, Ivory Coast's Yan Diomande, and Curacao's Tahith Chong.

Germany

Germany have qualified for the second most World Cup tournaments (21) in the history of the competition, and have also won the World Cup the second most times (4). Their most recent victory came in 2014 in Brazil.

The current German National Team are not as talented as they were in 2010s with prime Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Bastein Schweinsteiger, and Philipp Lahm, but they still have some really strong talent on the current roster, and will still have Neuer as the country's last line of defense.

Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz are Germany's most creative attacking players, with Nick Woltemade and Kai Havertz the target men in the middle.

Ecuador

Ecuador

The South American nation qualified for their first ever World Cup in 2002, and have proceeded to qualify for four of the last six tournaments since. The Ecuador National Team was a force in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying Tournament, finishing second in the table, and losing only once in 12 matches.

Sebastien Beccacece is the current manager of the Ecuador national team, and has only lost one of his first 18 matches entering the World Cup.

Ecuador has one of the strongest defenses in global soccer, but can struggle to find the back of the net. The nation will rely heavily on it's 36-year-old all-time scoring leader, Enner Valencia at the 2026 World Cup in North America. Valencia scored three of Ecuador's four goals in the 2022 tournament.

Moises Caicedo is the first and arguably most important part of Ecuador's defense, but is also relied on the break the lines going forward. Caicedo will line up in front of defenders Willian Pacho, Piero Hincapie and Joel Ordonez in the defensive midfield.

Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire)

Ivory Coast / Cote D'ivoire

The Ivory Coast have qualified for their fourth World Cup after a 12-year-absence, and first since the retirement of legend Didier Drogba. They have been eliminated in the group stage of every tournament to date.

The Elephants topped their CAF World Cup qualifying group with 26 points with an 8-2-0 record. They are one of two teams to not concede a single goal, and had the largest goal differential of +25.

Wingers Amad Diallo and Yan Diomande are the most exciting players on the pitch for the Elephants, and have the capabilities of getting fans of any country on their feet in an instant.

Curacao

Curacao

With a population of 156,000 people, Curacao's population is less than half the size of the previous smallest nation to qualify, Iceland, who had a population of 350,000 people in 2018. Curacao's current population is roughly the same as Charleston, South Carolina.

The small Caribbean island nation was the only Concacaf team to go undefeated through all six qualifying matches, and topped Group B with 12 points.

Head coach Dick Advocaat led Curacao through World Cup qualifying, but at 78-years-old, resigned for personal reasons. He is now back leading the squad in North America, and will become the oldest coach to ever coach in the World Cup Finals.

The Curacao National Team is led by the Bacuna brothers, Leandro and Juninho. Former Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong is also one of the most important players for the Caribbean Island nation.
