The annual showdown pits the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League against the winners of the UEFA Europa League.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa in 51st edition of the UEFA Super Cup, the traditional curtain-raiser that brings together the current holders of Europe's top two club competitions. PSG won their second such trophy after winning their first just one year before.
Historically, Spanish clubs have dominated the competition, largely thanks to the success of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two most decorated teams in the Super Cup. England and Italy follow, rounding out the top three most successful nations.
