More and more American players compete in the UEFA Champions League every season, but only a couple have gone all the way to win the competition.
Here, we'll tell you about the two Americans — so far — who have won the UEFA Champions League.
California native Jovan Kirovski played for six different clubs in three different countries in Europe by the time he reached his mid-20s, but his greatest achievement in that span was lifting the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund in 1996/97.
Kirovski was 21 years old during that season, and while he played in a handful of games for BVB throughout the campaign, he did not make the squad for the final, which Dortmund won by a 3-1 score over Juventus. He did appear in two of BVB's group games, both of which were against Atletico Madrid.
Christian Pulisic played 423 minutes in Chelsea FC's UEFA Champions League-winning campaign in 2021/22, and 25 of those minutes were in his team's 1-0 victory over Manchester City in that year's final.
Chelsea opened the scoring through Kai Havertz in the 42nd minute, and that was the only goal of the game. Pulisic came on to provide a pair of fresh legs to help see the game out, and he had 18 touches, took one shot worth 0.4 expected goals (xG), completed 11/16 passes, and successfully completed his only attempted dribble.
Pulisic had some important contributions in the journey to the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League Final. He assisted one goal in the 3-0 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid in the round of 16, and he provided a first-leg goal and a second-leg assist in the semifinals against Real Madrid.
