After being tossed in an eventual Game 4 loss for throwing an elbow to Naz Reid's neck, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs look to bounce back against Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves in a massive Game 5.
The series is tied 2-2. Teams that win Game 5 in this situation win the series ~81-83% of the time, so this one is a must-watch.
There was some doubt regarding Wemby's status for Game 5 as a potential suspension loomed, but the NBA cleared him to play with the series nearing a close.
After he somewhat struggled offensively in games one and two (shot 12-32 and scored 30 total points), the Spurs big man had a masterclass of a Game 3, putting in 39 points and shooting 13-18 from the field.
Wembanyama only played 12 minutes before being ejected in Game 4, scoring four points.
His lack of a presence was massively felt in Sunday's game as the Wolves more than 50 paint points after they scored less than 40 in games two and three.
Edwards, meanwhile, has been terrific recently as he integrates himself back into the flow of things after he sustained a bone bruise injury against Denver in the first round.
Ant scored 32 points in Game 3 and 36 in Game 4 after combining for 30 total points across games one and two. After playing 25 and 24 minutes in those games respectively, Edwards played 41 minutes in Game 3 and 40 minutes in Game 4, showing that his conditioning is all the way back.
The crucial Game 5 will start around 8:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM CT / 5:00 PM PT in San Antonio. With Game 6 coming in Minnesota, the Spurs should feel plenty of urgency to retake the series lead at home.
