UFC Vegas 123 delivered plenty of thrilling action, but a controversial call in the main event became the major talking point of the night.
During the second round, referee Dan Miragliotta abruptly stood up Renato Moicano while Moicano had Tom Nolan in a dominant back-control position with a body triangle locked in. Although this is widely considered one of the most dominant positions in the sport, Miragliotta intervened to force a stand-up because he believed the action had stalled, despite Moicano actively landing short strikes.
After the restart, Nolan landed strikes to end the round. While Rentao Moicano has expressed frustration over the call, he will not file an official appeal or blame the referee entirely, choosing to take responsibility for not being more effective.
Tom Nolan defeated Renato Moicano via third-round TKO (punches).
Jacobe Smith defeated Randy Brown via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26).
Cody Durden defeated Ode Osbourne via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Luana Santos defeated Yana Santos via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani defeated Farman Hasanov via third-round TKO (doctor stoppage).
