Renato Moicano (21-7-1) moved up to the number 10 spot in the UFC Lightweight rankings after facing surging prospect Chris Duncan.

The pair will met at the Meta Apex on April 4th, with the Brazilian looking to halt a two-fight losing skid.

Losing streak

After a stellar 2024, last year was a rough one for Moicano.

The Brazilian started the year with a late notice title opportunity against Islam Makhachev.

Challenger Arman Tsarukyan was forced to pull out of the main event with Moicano boosted from his slot on the main card at less than 24 hours notice.

The 36-year-old was submitted by choke in the first round.

Moicano then returned in June to face fellow veteran Beneil Dariush, but was defeated by unanimous decision.

The year of Money Moicano

After 14 months out through injury, Moicano enjoyed a stunning 2024 with three wins inside the calendar year.

Adopting the moniker “Money Moicano”, the Brazilian returned by outpointing Drew Dober early in the year, before stopping both Jalin Turner and Benoit Saint Denis in devastating fashion.

Almost finished by Turner at the end of round one of their UFC 300 bout, Moicano dramatically turned the tide on the American with a ground and pound finish in the second.

However, it was the demolition of feared contender Saint Denis that was most impressive, dominating the Frenchman on his home turf in Paris with the doctor stopping the fight due to a nasty eye injury.

Featherweight era

Moicano joined the UFC in 2014 as a featherweight and had a 5-3 run in the 145lb division before moving up in weight.

Jeremy Stephens, Calvin Kattar and Cub Swanson were his best wins, while his run ended with back-to-back 2019 defeats to Jose Aldo and Chan Sung Jung.

Moicano moved up to Lightweight in 2020 with a first-round submission of Damir Hadzovic and is currently 7-4 at 155lbs.

Fighting style

Moicano is an elite grappler with a highly technical approach and clean boxing.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, the 36-year-old has six wins in the UFC by submission, all via rear-naked-choke.
