In addition to Volkanovski and Evloev competing for the featherweight title, Russian and Georgian athletes will square off in the Octagon for the bantamweight championship.
“Third time’s the charm” is the perfect way to describe the UFC 333 co-main event between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili. With the bantamweight title on the line, the Russian champion will face the Georgian, the division’s No. 1 contender, for the third time.
In their first meeting, at UFC Fight Night 221, Dvalishvili won by unanimous decision. Yan got his revenge in the rematch at UFC 323, also winning by unanimous decision. The Abu Dhabi crowd will witness the final chapter of this trilogy.
The loss to Dvalishvili was Yan’s last defeat. Since then, he has won four straight fights and owns a 20-5 record. Dvalishvili, meanwhile, last competed in that loss to the Russian and has a 21-6 record.
