In a fierce rivalry that spans for over a century long, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will meet in a three-game Wild Card series starting tomorrow.
The Yankees wrapped up the season with a 93-68 record and a second place finish in the vaunted AL East. Boston finished 6.5 games behind them with a 87-75 record. New York only played 161 games due to their scheduled make-up game against the Baltimore Orioles being canceled because of heavy rain.
Both teams have World Series aspirations, and the talent to make it there. Boston's starters (Sonny Gray, Payton Tolle, Ranger Suarez, Brayan Bello, and Patrick Sandoval) have been terrific to close the season, while their offense has enough firepower to generate runs.
The Yankees staff, led by Cam Schlittler, Gerrit Cole, and Max Fried, is also fantastic. It'll be interesting to see how Aaron Boone maneuvers his bullpen as Paul Blackburn, Brent Headrick, and Fernando Cruz all threw a ton of innings.
The Yanks' offense can be deadly when things are clicking - Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, and Luis Garcia Jr. have been relatively consistent throughout the season and that should continue in the playoffs. The big question mark surrounding this team is the health of Aaron Judge. It seems like the 3x MVP is a game-time decision, and we'll know more after he takes live BP. Judge has stated that he believes he'll play in the series.
