Portugal National Team History

The Portuguese National Soccer Federation was founded in 1914, and they played their first international match in 1921 against Spain. The game resulted in a 3-1 loss to the regional rival.

Portugal have reached nine World Cups in their history but have never won. They had their best ever finish in their first try, finishing third in the 1966 tournament. Portugal reached the semifinals one other time (2006), but lost to Germany in the third-place play-off.
