Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be his final major tournament and revealed that he expects to call time on his illustrious career in "one or two years".

Portugal are on the verge of securing securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
As Portugal near qualification, Ronaldo has confirmed that the tournament - which will be his record-breaking sixth consecutive World Cup appearance - will be his swansong on the world's largest stage.
In an interview with CNN, Ronaldo said: "definitely yes. I will be 41 year old and I think [this] will be the moment in the big competition."
"I gave everything for football. I've been in the game for the last 25 years. I did everything, I have many records in the different scenarios in the clubs and also in the national teams."
"I'm really proud. So lets enjoy the moment, live the moment."
Ronaldo's comments on his final World Cup appearance sparked conversation of when the legend may hang up his boots, with the 40-year-old contracted to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League until 2027.
Ronaldo revealed in his interview that the end of his career will come soon, and when asked to elaborate how soon retirement could be, he responded: "Soon for me means 10 years... No I'm joking."
"I'm really enjoying the moment right now. As you know, in football, when you reach some age, you count the months very quick."
"I feel very good in this moment. I score goals, I still feel quick and sharp. I'm enjoying my game in the national team, But of course, lets be honest."
What I mean by soon is probably one or two years.
