Paul vs. Cobolli: Preview, How to Watch, Odds

Italy's Flavio Cobolli is set to face American hopeful Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters. The winner of this clash will advance to the semi-finals to play either Argentina's Thiago Agustin Tirante or Arthur Fils of France.

The Cincinnati Masters is heating up as the tournament moves into the quarter-final stage. All eyes will be on the upper half of the draw, where Italian rising star Flavio Cobolli takes on one of the home crowd's favorites, American Tommy Paul.

The victor will secure a spot in the semi-finals against the winner of the surprising matchup between Thiago Agustin Tirante, who has had a remarkable run on the Ohio hard courts, and Frenchman Arthur Fils, who recently ousted Alex de Minaur.

Cobolli's Hard-Fought Journey

Flavio Cobolli, a key player in Italy's Davis Cup victory last November, has battled through three grueling matches to reach this stage. His path has been a testament to his resilience, demonstrating an ability to dig deep, overcome difficult situations, and fight for every point, even when not playing at his best.

His campaign began with a marathon three-setter against Miomir Kecmanovic, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. He followed that with another thriller against Belgium's Alexander Blockx, clinching a tight 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 victory. In the round of 16, Cobolli staged a remarkable comeback against Spanish prodigy Rafa Jodar, fighting back from the brink of elimination to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Now, he faces Paul, who is fresh off a stunning upset over Alexander Zverev.

Paul's Impressive Run

The American, seeded 18th, has also navigated a challenging path. His tournament started with a hard-earned 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 win over Poland's Hubert Hurkacz. He then mounted a comeback to defeat Paraguayan Adolfo Vallejo 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 after a slow start.

Paul's most significant victory came in the round of 16 against top seed Alexander Zverev. After dropping the first set 6-4, a rain delay seemed to shift the momentum. Paul fought back, saved a match point, and won the second set in a tie-break. He then overcame a 2-4 deficit in the final set to seal a memorable 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory.

Head-to-Head: A Recent Encounter

There is a 14-spot difference in the ATP rankings between the two players, with Cobolli currently at No. 10 and Paul at No. 24. They have met only once before, earlier in this very tournament in 2024, where Cobolli emerged victorious with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win.
