Injuries have plagued the first week of the NBA season, and Paolo Banchero is just one of the many stars to be sidelined for multiple weeks.
Paolo Banchero suffered an ankle injury in the Orlando Magic's second game of the NBA season against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 23-year-old first felt discomfort in the first quarter after a player fell on him under the basket, but ended up playing 24 minutes in the 115-93 loss.
Banchero was coming off an impressive 35-point performance in the opening game, but he'll now have to wait to get back into his fifth NBA season.
During his absence, expect a combination of Jase Richardson and Tristan da Silva to take Banchero's place in the starting lineup.
An MRI on Banchero's right ankle confirmed that the former No. 1 overall pick has suffered a high ankle sprain.
The injury is considered 'low-grade' but he is still expected to miss 4-6 weeks of action.
Paolo Banchero is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a right high ankle sprain.
If Banchero misses exactly four weeks of action, he'd return on November 20th, when the Magic face the Brooklyn Nets on the road. If he returns for that game, he'd miss 12 games.
If Banchero misses exactly six weeks, he would return on December 4th. The Magic's next scheduled game after December 4th comes on December 12th against the Philadelphia 76ers. In that case, Banchero would miss 18 games.
It is more likely that the Magic star returns sometime between these two dates, in late November or early December.
