Padres vs. Rays: Prediction, Props & Best Bets

The San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays will wrap up a three-game series on Sunday afternoon in Tampa.

A sweep is in play for the Rays after they prevailed 9-4 in the opener and 7-6 on Saturday, which improved their record to 5-1 in their last six outings.

With Sunday's contest set for 1:40 pm ET, it’s time to break down the matchup and discuss the best bets to make.

Padres vs. Rays betting picks and predictions

Padres +1.5 (-155)

The Padres may not be playing stellar baseball at the moment with a 1-4 record in their last five games, they are almost always competitive.

In their last eight contests, they have lost by more than one run only once, and have lost by multiple runs just three times in their last 19 games.

More of the same should continue with Robbie Ray taking the mound on Sunday. A trade-deadline acquisition from San Francisco, Ray is 11-7 with a 3.21 ERA for his 2026 campaign.

The left-hander has been impressive over his past two starts, allowing a mere three earned runs across 11.1 innings of work against the Mets and Pirates.

San Diego is 2-1 in his last three appearances, with its only loss during this stretch coming via a 3-2 decision in 10 innings against Pittsburgh.

Ray should get enough run support to either win this one or at least keep it close.

Over 7.5 (+105)

You cannot deny that the pitching matchup is a good one, but that’s why the total makes the over an enticing proposition.

Although Drew Rasmussen has been stellar for Tampa Bay this year, he has not been as good at home (3.24 ERA) as on the road (2.69). The righty has given up eight earned runs in his last three starts without logging more than 6.0 innings on any occasion.

For San Diego, Ray has not worked into the seventh inning since June 28 and his road ERA (3.82) is much higher than his home mark (2.72).

It could be a real problem for each side if neither starter goes deep into the game, because both bullpens have already put in plenty of work during this series.

The Rays used three relievers for 3.1 innings on Friday and three for 3.0 innings yesterday. Their relief pitchers are not very good to begin with, sporting a 4.07 bullpen ERA for the season.

The Padres used three relievers for 3.0 innings in the series opener and four for 3.0 innings on Saturday.

Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs on Friday and 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Saturday.

Junior Caminero Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-138)

Junior Caminero heads into Sunday riding a 12-game hitting streak, which includes four multi-hit performances.

Tampa Bay’s all-star third baseman hit his 36th homer of the season during Saturday’s win, while he has driven in a run in seven of his last 10 games and scored a run in six of his last 10.

The 23-year-old Dominican Republic native is 1-for-3 lifetime against Ray with a home run.
