The USMNT is already a perfect 2-0 to start the 2026 World Cup, and they'll receive a massive boost to their lineup going forward as a key player is back and healthy.
Christian Pulisic, widely regarded at the best American player, exited during halftime of the first group stage match against Paraguay and was forced to miss the entire match vs. Australia with a left calf injury.
He seems fit enough to play tonight against Turkiye, though he doesn't expect to play the full 90 minutes.
"I'm ready to play a part," Pulisic said yesterday. "Obviously, not a good chance I'll probably go and play 90 right away normally after you come back and miss a game, but we'll see."
Pulisic was kicked in the calf in practice two days before the Paraguay match, but he was the team's most effective player, beautifully setting up scoring chances for Folarin Balogun in the first half. He was then kicked again in the same calf in the first half of that opening match.
While he might not play the full 90 minutes, Thursday night's match with be an opportunity for him to get his feet wet in what has virtually turned into an exhibition match. The U.S. has already secured a spot in the Round of 32, and Turkiye has been mathematically eliminated.
Pulisic scored the lone goal in the United States' final group stage match of the 2022 World Cup vs. Iran, and he'll be looking to get on the board ahead of the Round of 32.
