Vargas, born in the United States represented the United States at the youth level, but switched his allegiances to Mexico in 2024. Vargas has dual citizenship, and never made a senior appearance for the USMNT allowing his to represent Mexico.
Vargas is one of the most promising players on the Mexican National Team, although he has only made five appearances for his nation.
Began his career with the Seattle Sounders and played for their MLS Next Pro team, Tacoma Defiance, making 28 appearances between 2021 and 2023.
Vargas made his MLS debut with the Sounders in 2021, at 15 years, 11 months and 18 days old.
In 130 appearances in Seattle, Vargas played in the 2025 Club World Cup, and won the Concacaf Champions League (2021/22) and Leagues Cup (2025) with the Sounders.
In February of 2026, Vargas made the big move to Atletico Madrid in Spain, but is yet to make a major impact. In the coming years he is expected to play alongside 23-year-old USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso in Spanish sides midfield.
