New York Mets Season Outlook After Signing Bo Bichette: Potential Lineup + 2026 World Series Odds

In an unexpected move, the New York Mets shook up the baseball world by signing 2x AL hit leader Bo Bichette to a three-year deal on Friday.

It has been a busy offseason for the Mets. They've lost stars Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Diaz, but have added Jorge Polanco, Marcus Semien, Devin Williams, and now Bichette.

According to bet365's oddsmakers, the Mets were outside the top-ten favorites to sign Bichette. As a matter of fact, the NL East rival Philadelphia Phillies were -110 favorites to land Bichette as late as Friday morning.

The contract will pay him $42 million per year, totaling $126 million until it expires at the end of the 2028 season.

The $42 million AAV is fourth-highest in MLB, behind his teammate Juan Soto ($51 million), the newly-signed Dodger Kyle Tucker ($60 million), and Shohei Ohtani ($70 million).

Bichette makes the move over to the NL after spending six years in Toronto to start his career.

The primary shortstop led the league in hits in 2021 and 2022 and was second in MLB in batting average (.311) this season. He also hit 18 home runs and had a 3.8 fWAR.

The most famous hit of his career might be his epic three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 of the World Series last year, which ended in disappointing fashion for Toronto.

Bichette will bring an elite bat to a Mets team that lost 5x All-Star Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles last month.

With a team that fields Francisco Lindor at shortstop and Marcus Semien at second base already, the most likely case for Bichette will be to start at third base and possibly rotate him in and out of the DH spot.

Let's take a look at their projected starting lineup according to Fangraphs as well as their chances to win the 2026 World Series below:
