The New York Jets are in a very tough position as the NFL season enters Week 9.
Aaron Glenn's team has lost three in a row and are 2-6 on the season despite starting the year on a high note. The team has played tough, only losing one of their six games by more than one possession, but back-to-back losses to the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders at home have killed most of the hopes Jets fans had.
Along with the losing streak, a few of the Jets' star players are banged up. Running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and No. 2 overall pick David Bailey are all questionable heading into a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead.
Hall has missed the last four games with a right quadriceps injury, Bailey missed last week's game with a groin strain, while Wilson suffered a concussion on Sunday and is in concussion protocol.
Hall is looking like he'll play Week 9's matchup against the Chiefs. The running back was limited in practice heading into last week, but was ruled out before the game. This week, Glenn said Hall is "trending in the right direction."
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich said that he "assumes" Hall will takeover as the lead back once healthy despite solid production from Braelon Allen in recent weeks.
Hall was injured in the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions and has rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries so far this year.
Wilson is certainly more doubtful to play when compared to Hall after he suffered a concussion during a hit by Jeremy Chinn last week. The receiver will have to clear the league's multi-step return-to-play process and receive medical clearance before he can suit up against the Chiefs.
Wilson reported feeling symptoms on Monday, rather than directly after the game on Sunday, and is considered "day-to-day." The No. 1 target has 527 yards and three touchdowns in eight games this year, putting himself on track to finish with over 1,000 yards for the fourth time in his career.
If Wilson is out, more of the target share will go to Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr.
Leading Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate David Bailey missed Week 8's game with a groin injury, but Glenn said that he's trending positively and seems to be on track to play in Week 9.
The pass-rusher already has 5.5 sacks in seven career games and would be a big piece to get back for a faltering Jets defense. Backup Nate Lynn has performed well in Bailey's absence, but there's no doubt New York would rather have their top draft pick out there.
