The Lakers in the 70s took basketball to another level, with the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Gail Goodrich in their ranks.
Chamberlain led the league in rebounds in the 1971-72 season, while West topped the assists charts, as the Lakers went 33 games unbeaten on their way to the NBA Championship.
Not only does that still stand as the longest winning run, but their 69-13 regular-season record is also a season-best for the franchise.
The Lakers, coached by Bill Sharman, went on to lift the trophy after a 4-1 finals series win over the New York Knicks.
The 2015 title-winning Golden State Warriors are the team that got closest to the Lakers record winning streak – falling five games short across two seasons.
After lifting the Larry O’Brien Championship trophy in the 2014-15 campaign, Steve Kerr’s men then won the first 24 games of the 2015-16 season.
They reached the finals again in 2015, looking to win back-to-back titles, but were beaten by LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 2016-17 Golden State Warriors currently hold the record for the longest winning streak of postseason games.
Led on court by Steph Curry, GSW won 15 playoff games on the spin - from April 16, 2017 to June 9, 2017.
Tied second on the playoff streak list are the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, with both franchises tallying 13 postseason wins in a row.
The Lakers claimed their 13 playoff victories from the 1987-88 campaign through to the 1988-89 playoffs, while the Cavs won 13 straight in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
Three teams have registered 12-game playoff winning streaks with a special mention to the San Antonio Spurs, who achieved that run in the same season (1998-99).
Two teams top the stats for the longest winning streaks during the 2023/24 season, with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Orlando Magic winning nine straight.
Tyronn Lue’s Clippers recorded their nine straight victories during the month of December, which included wins over Western Conference rivals the Denver Nuggets and the Sacramento Kings.
The Magic, who haven’t been in an NBA Finals since 2009 with Dwight Howard in his prime, also made it nine-in-row at the back end of 2023.
Orlando won eight games in November before also collecting a home-court success over the Washington Wizards on December 1.
