An intriguing contest brings a close to Week 3 on Monday Night Football with the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles travelling to Soldier Field to take on Chicago Bears, who will be without star QB Caleb Williams for the next few weeks due to a hamstring injury.
To make matters worse for the home team, they may even be without back-up signal-caller Tyson Bagent, who has been listed as questionable after sustaining a concussion when replacing Williams last week against Minnesota.
It has been a strange sort of start for the Bears as they ran riot in their crazy opening game against the Carolina Panthers, winning 59-37 at the Bank of America Stadium with a healthy Williams going 21 for 29 for 269 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while he rushed for two more from 10 carries and 65 yards.
D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai both hit the 100-yard mark on the ground too, combining for four TDs, but it was an entirely different game in their home opener against the Vikings last week, not helped by Williams' hamstring or a rainstorm, with no touchdowns scored in a grinding 9-3 win for the road team.
The Eagles have started with a perfect two from two record, but have yet to convince of their level, having withstood the Washington Commanders' comeback bid in a 24-22 victory at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 1, before Jalen Hurts' late TD pass to Darius Cooper with nine seconds left snatched a 24-20 win at the Tennessee Titans last week.
The Eagles have been far from convincing so far but crucially have still been winning, and it is hard to look past them in the Monday Night Football game, given the Bears will definitely by without dual-threat starter Caleb Williams.
Tyson Bagent has seen his involvement decline since his rookie season in 2023 - when he threw twice as many interceptions than TDs in five games played, six to three - but if he were to be ruled out, the Bears would have to turn to Case Keenum.
He has not even played since 2023, when he completed 34 of 53 passes attempted for one TD and three interceptions in two games played for the Houston Texans.
As misfiring as the Eagles may be, Chicago are in a worse spot and although they won 24-15 in Philadelphia last season, not many will be thinking history will be repeating on Monday night.
An Eagles' win is expected at -220 ML odds but they can cover a relatively low handicap of -4.5 too given Minnesota won by six without even scoring a touchdown last week.
Chicago's opener saw a ridiculous 96 total points scored and both of Philadelphia's games this season have passed this mark, although each saw late scores in tight games.
While there is likely to be more than the 12 scored in the first game at Soldier Field this season, the offensive problems for both teams certainly suggest anything but a shootout.
The Bears could well be starting their third-choice QB while the Eagles are banged up too, with tight end Dallas Goedert ruled out with a knee injury and wide receiver Marquise Brown sidelined by an ankle issue.
WR Devonta Smith has also seen limited practice time this week but perhaps more worryingly so too has running back Saquon Barkley. Even though both should be available on Monday, Philadelphia will not be desperate to overload them, and may not need to.
The Under looks the way to go.
D'Andre Swift has made an excellent start to the season despite Chicago's inconsistent opening, rushing for 124 yards and three TDs from 18 carries against the Panthers, while adding another 10 through the air with one reception.
The ground game was not working particularly effectively against the Vikings last week with Swift averaging 2.8 yards per run with 45 yards off 16 carries, he demonstrated his importance to Chicago with 54 yards from five receptions off six targets.
With the QB situation as it is for the Bears going into Monday night's game, Swift is likely to be utilized often by the home team, and he looks capable of gaining 77 yards one way or another to keep his team competitive.
