With just a handful of games left in the MLS regular season, Seattle Sounders host Sporting Kansas City as the home side look to move one step closer to a playoff spot.
The Sounders currently sit ninth in the Western Conference while Sporting KC are down in 15th after a disappointing campaign, although they have improved recently.
Seattle Sounders struggled throughout the summer, losing eight games in a row during an injury crisis, but a seven-game unbeaten run in the MLS has seen them fight their way back into the playoff picture.
Key striker Jordan Morris is back to full fitness and scored his first goal since April in their 3-1 win over Minnesota United on Saturday, becoming the Sounders’ leading scorer of regular season goals with 73.
Seattle have struggled somewhat going forwards this year but with Morris back at full strength, they look set to increase their offensive output.
They face a Sporting Kansas City team who had struggled all season before winning two of their last three. Nevertheless, the visitors have lost 17 of their 26 matches and have the worst defensive record in the West, conceding 63 times.
Their clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Houston Dynamo last time out was their first of the entire season and they conceded four at home to Philadelphia Union in the game before that.
To add to their issues at the back, their road record leaves plenty to be desired, having lost 10 of their 13 away games, and Seattle are fancied to make it three wins on the bounce when they host these opponents.
The Sounders have won three of the last four head-to-heads and have scored 11 goals in the process. With KC struggling defensively and with a slim chance of sneaking into a playoff place, this looks like a good spot to stick with Seattle.
However, both teams have scored in six of the last seven meetings between these two sides and there should be goalmouth action at both ends.
Take Seattle to win a game in which both teams score.
Seattle have hardly been prolific this season but anything positive they have done has tended to come through Albert Rusnak.
The Slovakian has 11 assists this season, a figure no player in the MLS can beat, and has chipped in with four assists in his last three games.
With the return of Morris, Rusnak should have even more attacking options to help him, and the creative star of this Sounders team looks like a solid bet to register another assist against the worst defensive team in the Western Conference.
To make matters worse for Sporting Kansas City, they are experiencing something of a defensive injury crisis with Moises Mosquera, Jake Davis, Or Blorian and Diego Borges all set to miss out on this clash.
Jansen Miller is likely to start in their place but the 24-year-old can be rash in the tackle. He has committed 16 fouls in seven MLS starts this season and has already picked up three yellow cards.
