Portland Timbers will be looking to kickstart their season before the MLS takes a break for the World Cup but they may struggle to claim any points at defending champions Inter Miami on Sunday.

The Timbers have endured a mixed start to the MLS season with 14 points from 12 games, and sit outside of the postseason spots in the Western Conference.

Inter Miami are third in the East and are clear contenders for MLS Cup glory after taking the title last year. Star man Lionel Messi also comes into Sunday’s clash in fine form with four goals in his last three games.

Inter Miami to win and both teams to score (+110)

Inter Miami are massive favorites to win and they should be able to see off Portland with relative ease. The Herons have lost just two of their 13 MLS games, winning seven, and nine of those fixtures have been on the road.

However, Guillermo Hoyos’ side are still seeking a first home win of the season in the league with three draws and a defeat in their four games. They should be able to end that run by beating the Timbers, who have lost five of their seven road games, but Portland can at least get on the scoresheet.

Inter Miami have yet to keep a clean sheet at home and have conceded in nine of their last 10 games across all competitions. Portland has found some form in front of goal with eight goals scored across its last two games, and also scores on average over a goal per game on the road.

Inter Miami have scored 12 goals across their last three games and could win this by a big margin but the Timbers have the tools to cause them a few issues at the other end and should be able to strike in defeat at Nu Stadium.

Lionel Messi to assist (-106)

Messi is in sensational form and it seems highly likely that he will make a crucial contribution in attack, and the best angle in terms of value looks to be backing the Argentine veteran to provide an assist.

Messi has managed four assists in 11 MLS games this season and all of those have come in his last three games.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner should enjoy plenty of success against a Timbers' defence that has conceded 23 goals in 12 games, and he can record at least one assist.

Kevin Kelsy to score (+240)

A Portland Timbers goal is expected and Kevin Kelsy looks their most likely candidate to find a way through against Inter Miami.

Kelsy has established himself as a starter of late and is repaying the faith shown in him by head coach Phil Neville with some impressive performances.

The Venezuelan striker has scored five goals in his last six games and three goals, along with an assist, in his last two. Inter Miami’s backline has shipped 24 goals in 13 games this season so the visitors will get chances, and Kelsy looks a strong option to grab a goal.
