Two teams with second-place finishes in their respective divisions, the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, meet in the Wild Card.

The Cubs, with presumed NL MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong, have been a dominant offense throughout the season and it'll come down to the slightly-questionable pitching staff to limit the Padres.

Matthew Boyd spearheads a rotation that also includes Shota Imanaga, Kevin Gausman, and Clay Holmes. Boyd has had the most success of his career pitching in Chicago, finishing with a sub-4.0 ERA in each of the last two seasons. The soft-throwing lefty will have to maneuver around the talent of staples Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Manny Machado, and Ty France in the Padres' lineup.

On the other side, Michael King will take the bump for a San Diego team that features the league's best bullpen. Ideally, King would pitch six innings before the likes of Yuki Matsui, Adrian Morejon, and Mason Miller shut things down late.

However, it'll be a big ask for King to go six against an explosive offense that ranks first in most major offensive statistics. The starter finished with a 3.21 ERA and struck out 159 batters in 185.0 innings pitched.
