LSU is stirring up the landscape of college basketball next season after signing two former NBA G-League players Yam Madar and RJ Luis Jr. to NIL contracts.
LSU have signed Madar and Luis Jr. to the 2026/27 roster after already featuring for the Boston Celtics' G-League team.
College teams have been consistently adding overseas professionals the past few years, and now former NBA Draft picks are returning to collegiate landscape that is starting to look more and more like a professional league as the months pass without much oversight.
The NCAA president Charlie Baker did state that the organization will not grant eligibility to any players who have previously signed NBA contracts, but neither player ever signed an official NBA contract.
2025 Big East Player of the Year RJ Luis Jr. went undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft before signing a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz. He was then traded to Boston and eventually waived.
RJ Luis played three seasons in college, including one season at Massachusetts and two at St. Johns with Rick Pitino.
Yam Madar was selected 47th overall by the Celtics in the 2020 NBA Draft, but never made an appearance for team. Now 25-years-old, Madar is a role player for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli League.
Reports out of Israel state that Madar was offered a $5 million NIL contract with the tigers, but his advanced age will make him and Luis Jr.'s collegiate eligibility uncertain.
LSU is currently +10000 to win the 2026/27 NCAA Basketball Championship.
