Joel Embiid has missed the last six games with a a right oblique strain, and fans are wondering when the Philadelphia 76ers big man will return.
The former MVP was hurt during a 124-117 win over the Miami Heat on Feb. 26 and was originally slated to miss "at least three games" according to Sixers officials.
However, after being re-evaluated on March 6th after those three games, the Sixers said that Embiid would miss at least another week before being evaluated again.
Noah Levick of NBCS Philly reported that Embiid had started individual strength and conditioning on Mar. 6, so Embiid should be pretty close to returning.
Philadelphia has gone 2-4 in those six games and are now without All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey for at least the next three weeks.
The Sixers sit at No. 8 in the Eastern Conference with a 35-30 record, a game ahead of the streaking Atlanta Hawks (seven wins in a row) and a game behind the Orlando Magic for the No. 7 seed.
Embiid has only played in 33 games this year as he's missed time for "knee management" and "ankle management," but he's played well when he's on the court.
So far this year, the seven-time All-Star is averaging 26.6 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 49.5% from the field.
As mentioned previously, the Sixers said on March 6th that Embiid would be evaluated in a week. That would mean that he could possibly be feeling healthy enough to return around mid-March. Here's a look at their next couple of games coming up:
Date | Away Team | Home Team |
Mar. 12 | Philadelphia 76ers
Mar. 14 | Philadelphia 76ers
Mar. 15 | Philadelphia 76ers
Mar. 17 | Philadelphia 76ers |
Embiid will most likely miss tomorrow's game against the Pistons, but a return on either the 14th or 15th makes sense for him.
It's hard to imagine Embiid playing in a back-to-back, so Philly could play him on the first night, have him rest on the 15th, then have him be ready to play in Denver on the 17th.
Will the Hornets make the playoffs?
