Jameson Taillon Injury Update: Cubs' Starter Appears to be Headed to IL

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon left yesterday's game against the San Francisco Giants after pitching just one inning.

Taillon was replaced by Javier Assad after throwing a pitch to Giants' Matt Chapman and then asking for the athletic trainer. Assad pitched well in his place, throwing 6.1 shutout innings.

Taillon suffered a hamstring strain that he says is "nothing [like] I've ever felt." He continued to say that he expects to be put on the injured list.

Taillon, 34, was having a rough year, accumulating a 5.13 ERA and allowing a league-high 20 home runs. However, with a litany of injuries already to the Cubs' pitching staff, Taillon's availability made him more valuable than his numbers.

Justin Steele, Cade Horton, and Matthew Boyd all remain out, however Boyd has made two rehab starts in Triple-A and is due to return this week. Edward Cabrera was also out for an extended period of time, but he made his return on Friday, allowing 8 ER in 3.2 innings pitched.

Taillon is set to get an MRI today, and more updates will be announced once the team known the full extent of his injury. Expect the pitcher to be placed on either the 10-day or 15-day IL after the result.

"I don't think it's crazy, I'm walking around, moving around...hopefully we can keep the arm conditioned and moving around and limit it from being too long," he said, per ESPN.
