Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek will be back in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships, facing off against Czech player, Karolina Pliskova.
Swiatek defeated American player Taylor Townsend in the first round of the Championships, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Iga Swiatek is the third ranked female tennis player in the world currently, topped only by Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.
The 25-year-old star has already won 25 singles titles in her career, including the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. This is Swiatek's fifth time playing at Wimbledon, and the first time she has the chance to defend of title at the Grand Slam.
Pliskova, 34, has won 17 singles titles in her career, and was the No. 1 ranked female player in the world back in 2017. The Czech player reached the final for the first time in 2021, but fell to Ashleigh Barty.
Swiatek vs. Pliskova will be the first match on Centre Court, on Thursday, July 2nd.
The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will be primarily broadcast on ESPN, with streaming on ESPN+ for viewers in the United States.
