Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers are set for Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals playoff series Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
The Hurricanes own a commanding 3-0 lead in the series and are looking to complete the sweep on Saturday in Game 4.
With a perfect 7-0 record so far this postseason, Carolina is looking to become the first team in NHL Playoffs history to sweep two best-of-seven series to open the playoffs.
On the other side, the Flyers are looking to stay alive and force a Game 5. Puck drop is slated for 6:10 p.m. ET.
The Hurricanes are in the midst of a dominating postseason run the likes of which we haven't seen in quite some time.
Thanks to a four-game sweep over the Senators and owning a 3-0 series lead on the Flyers, the Hurricanes are just the fifth team in NHL history to start a postseason 7-0.
All of those four previous teams failed to complete back-to-back sweeps and reach 8-0, but that could change with this Hurricanes team.
Game 3 was controlled by Carolina from start to finish. The Hurricanes dominated puck possession, were the more disciplined team and out-shot the Flyers 31-19.
The game got out of reach in the 3rd period and frustration began to boil over for Philadelphia. The Flyers ended up taking nine penalties on the night, and have given the Hurricanes a whopping 15 power play opportunities over the last two games of this series. That is not a winning formula.
The Flyers simply don't have the defensive prowess or goal-scoring depth to hang with the Hurricanes.
Philadelphia is scoring just 2.11 goals per game in the postseason and has potted just eight total goals over their last six games.
Carolina's well-rounded forward group is wreaking havoc on Philadelphia and too much is being asked of Dan Vladar between the pipes.
Furthermore, Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen is absolutely dialed in. He owns a stellar 1.02 goals-against average to go along with a sensational .957 save percentage through seven playoff games.
With the way he is rolling right now, look for Andersen to lead the Hurricanes to another regulation victory in this one.
The Flyers are struggling to score goals in this series, but they will be in pure desperation mode. With their backs against the wall, look for the Flyers to come out firing.
They managed just 19 shots on goal in Game 3, but, after putting 19 shots on goal in Game 1, they responded with 36 shots on goal in Game 2.
I expect a similar bounce back shot total in Game 4 as the Flyers look to avoid elimination.
This series has featured the most penalty minutes per game among all playoff matchups so far. Philadelphia has been especially undisciplined and have given the Hurricanes 19 power play chances through three games.
On the other side, Carolina has handed Philadelphia 16 power play chances of their own.
Given the rate at which these teams are ending up in the penalty box, both sides could be in line for several power play chances once again.
With a total of 5.5, look to the over.
