The Women's College World Series Championship begins tonight, Wednesday June 3rd, and it'll come down to two teams from the same state.
The Texas Longhorns take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a best-of-three series.
Texas, sparked by a 31-1 run to open the season, was always projected to be a serious contender after winning it all in 2025. However, a slow close to the season made them the fifth-favorite to win the title coming into the College World Series tournament at +475 odds. They defeated Tennessee, Nebraska, and Mississippi State to reach the finals.
Texas has used a litany of clutch hits to get them back to the championship series. Led by first baseman Katie Stewart, who has a 1.469 OPS in postseason play, the Longhorns are 6-0 in elimination games.
The pitching has been clutch too. Starting pitcher Teagan Kavan has allowed just one run in the last 21.1 innings, including a complete game shutout in the decider vs. Tennessee on Monday.
The Red Raiders came into the College World Series as the fourth-favorite to win it all, priced at +450. So far, they've knocked off Alabama, Mississippi State, and UCLA in the World Series.
Texas Tech's offense, spearheaded by Mia Williams and Lauren Allred (both with a 1.400+ OPS), has done serious work making up for a pitching staff that has allowed 52 runs in 11 postseason games.
The offense was the reason they lost last year, but that unit scored 86 runs in that same span, including a comeback from down 0-8 to Ole Miss in the seventh inning in the second game of their regional.
Along with the superb play of Williams and Allred, first baseman Jackie Lis and third baseman Taylor Pannell each have four homers in the postseason. It's a dynamic, powerful lineup that will need to perform against the likes of Kavan and Citlaly Gutierrez on Texas.
All Women's College World Series Championship games will be broadcast on ESPN, available via cable and live streaming services such as YouTube TV.
