The most exciting teams for the neutral fan or casual observer to watch that will not win the World Cup.
These teams are the most exciting and fun teams to watch this summer, although they may not be the best teams to actually root for. This list includes teams that play a game that is exciting no matter the final score, and are not expected to win the entire tournament.
Some teams that are too good to make this list include France and Portugal, who are legitimate contenders to win the 2026 World Cup but still play a fun game.
Find out the best teams that are always looking to score, and are enjoyable to watch as a neutral fan (Don't worry, none of these teams will sit back in a low block like Arsenal).
This list is largely made up of teams with no real chance to win the World Cup, but Colombia has a team that could realistically make a deep run in the tournament.
The Colombia national team is ranked #13 in the world according to the FIFA rankings, and have a very balanced team. Captained by 2014 breakout star James Rodriguez, Colombia play a very pleasant game highlighted by phenomenal playmakers.
Colombia are physical in defense, and elegant yet clinical up front. Jefferson Lerma and Richard Rios are nearly always due for a yellow card, and Luis Diaz and Luis Suarez react havoc upon opposing defenses.
Keep an eye on Columbia in Group K.
Colombia's World Cup Schedule:
June 17 | vs. Uzbekistan |
June 23 | vs. DR Congo |
June 27 | vs. Portugal |
Scotland might be the most exciting team to watch in the 2026 World Cup because they are a team that never gives up. Scotland play some exciting matches because they don't have the most talent, but play harder than whatever team they face.
John McGinn is a stocky midfielder with a low center of gravity who is nearly impossible to push off the ball. McGinn is scrappy in defense too, making him a really fun player to watch. Scott McTominay is the other Scottish midfielder who jumps off the screen when he plays. At 6' 4", McTominay plays the central midfield role more like a center forward, crashing into the opponents box hungry for a goal.
In addition to the players on the pitch, the Scottish fans are incredibly passionate and colorful when rooting for their team. "No Scotland, No Party."
Scotland's World Cup Schedule:
June 13 | vs. Haiti |
June 19 | vs. Morocco |
June 24 | vs. Brazil |
Ivory Coast are a dark horse to make a deep run in the 2026 World Cup, and possess lots of quality all over the pitch. The 'Elephants' have incredibly exciting wingers, Amad Diallo and Yan Diomande who play a quick and attractive attacking game, while physical midfielders control the match.
They play a slow possession focused game, but will attack in hurry using their blistering pace on the wings. The Ivory Coast won AFCON in 2023, and defeated France in their final warm-up game showcasing that they are a force to reckoned with on the global stage.
This team will be filled with confidence at the World Cup, and should play some exciting matches in a competitive Group E.
Ivory Coast's World Cup Schedule:
June 14 | vs. Ecuador |
June 20 | vs. Germany |
June 25 | vs. Curacao |
Asian countries have consistently flown under the radar at the World Cup, but Japan has qualified for the tournament for the eighth consecutive time and have performed well on the international stage.
The Japan national team topped their group in 2022, defeating Germany and Spain in Qatar, but fell to Croatia in penalties in the round of 16. If a few balls bounced the other way, Japan could have gone down as giant slayers, but instead their impressive run has been largely forgotten.
Japan has quality all around the pitch, led by Wataru Endo, Ristu Doan, and Takefusa Kubo. The Japanese team has also won six consecutive matches before the World Cup, including victories over Brazil and England. Watch out for Japan to make some noise in Group F.
Japan's World Cup Schedule:
June 14 | vs. Netherlands |
June 20 | vs. Tunisia |
June 25 | vs. Sweden |
Curacao are surely one to watch, not just because they're the smallest country to ever compete in the competition, but because they will get up and down the pitch no matter the opposition.
the Curacao national team are an esthetically pleasing team to watch due their excellent blue and yellow jerseys, but also play an exciting brand of soccer. The small Caribbean island has lost all three of their World Cup warm-up matches by a combined score of 2-11, but still took 24 total shots in those matches.
Curacao are not afraid to get forward in attack, making them vulnerable in defense, creating an exciting back-and-fourth game which often brings lots of goals. They are neutral fans' dream, but could cause heartbreak for their own support.
Curacao's World Cup Schedule:
June 14 | vs. Germany |
June 20 | vs. Ecuador |
June 25 | vs. Ivory Coast |
Jordan play a very similar style to Curacao, and will surely feature some exciting games. The Middle Eastern nation will also be playing in their first ever World Cup tournament in 2026, and their goal will be to entertain rather than actually win many (if any) games.
Jordan will sit back and defend, but when they get the ball it often leads to rapid and direct counter attacks which are always exciting to watch. Jordan create lots of opportunities going forward on the counter, but they lack the quality to convert a high number of chances or maintain possession for long periods of time.
Jordan are also susceptible defensively, and allowed 33 total shots in their last two warm-up matches against Colombia and Switzerland, making their games a must watch this summer.
Jordan's World Cup Schedule:
June 16 | vs. Austria |
June 22 | vs. Algeria |
June 27 | vs. Argentina |
