The players tied for the all-time lead with two each are Mike Trout (2014 & 2015), Cal Ripken Jr. (1991 & 2001), Gary Carter (1981 & 1984), Steve Garvey (1974 & 1978), and Willie Mays (1963 & 1968).
The MLB All-Star MVP Award has been given to a player on the losing team twice: Brooks Robinson in 1966 and Carl Yastrzemski in 1970.
Baseball Writers Association of America writers and the game's broadcasters account for 80% of the MLB All-Star MVP vote, while the remaining 20% comes from the fan vote.
The MLB All-Star MVP trophy is called the Arch Ward Memorial Trophy, named for the Chicago Tribune sports editor who came up with the idea for the All-Star Game, and it's a glass baseball bat with the player's name engraved on it.
