Darryn Peterson has put together two effective Summer League games, and he'll get a chance for a third against the San Antonio Spurs tonight, if he plays.
The 2nd overall pick has yet been officially ruled out for the rest of the Summer League like No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa, though he sat out against the Chicago Bulls in Utah's last game and could be done for the rest of the tournament. Regardless, we'll cover his player props for tonight's game in case he does play.
Peterson is the +280 favorite for the Rookie of the Year award and his performances in the Summer League indicate that is justified.
He scored 24 points in his first professional game against Dybantsa and the Wizards, then scored 23 against No. 5 overall pick Keaton Wagler and the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
The efficiency hasn't been great - he shot 6-for-18 in each of the two games he's played, but he's demonstrated an elite feel for getting to his spots on-ball and has worked hard off-ball. It will only be a matter of time and experience before a majority of his shots fall in.
As mentioned previously, Peterson was out against No. 4 pick Caleb Wilson and the Bulls on Monday, though Wilson's comments to the media a day after the game might've sparked some motivation for the former Kansas Jayhawk to play tonight.
"I can't say [Dybantsa and Peterson] don't enjoy basketball, but like, I enjoy basketball. I love this sh*t," Wilson said. "I felt yesterday was weird because I expected Darryn to play. So when I came into the game, I didn't have the right mindset."
Peterson's status will be revealed closer to tip at 9:30 PM ET / 8:30 PM CT / 6:30 PM PT. Below is a look at his player props, including points, assists, rebounds, and threes made, with odds provided by bet365:
