Astros ace Hunter Brown will look to shut down a potent White Sox lineup in a must-win game for Houston on Wednesday.
A bullpen game that consisted of A.J. Blubaugh, Bryan King, Bennett Sousa, Josh Hendrickson, Miguel Ullola, Bryan Abreu, Josh Hader, and Logan VanWey allowed six runs to Chicago in Game 1 yesterday. Houston will hope Brown can pitch the majority of today's game with so many arms tired.
The White Sox, on the other hand, got a terrific pitching outing from their bullpen - Hagen Smith, Sean Newcomb, Grant Taylor, and David Sandlin allowed just two earned runs. Taylor, Chicago's best reliever, may need a rest day after he threw 54 pitches yesterday and struck out five of the seven outs he got.
For the White Sox, ace Sean Burke will take the bump in Game 2.
Burke finished the year with a 3.34 ERA, primarily using a devastating fastball/knuckle-curve combo to strike out 185 batters in 172.1 innings pitched.
Brown was also tremendous for Houston this year after he missed a large chunk of the early portion of the season. He ended the year with a 3.19 ERA and struck out 124 in 107.1 innings, similarly using a fastball and knuckle-curve.
