Thailand will face Vietnam in the ASEAN Championship Final second leg on Wednesday in Ha Noi.
Vietnam won the first leg of the finals in Bangkok decisively on Saturday, and hold a two goal advantage heading into the second leg in Ha Noi. Vietnam won the first leg 2-0, with goals from Nguyen Hai Long (62'), and Nguyen Quand Hai (69').
Thailand scraped into the ASEAN Championship finals with a 4-3 aggregate win over Singapore. The Thai team started with a 3-1 advantage in the first leg, before losing 2-1 in the second the leg. Kakana Khamyok's crucial penalty in the second leg sealed the win for Thailand.
Vietnam had a much easier route to the finals. Vietnam defeated Malaysia 2-0 in both legs (4-0 on aggregate) of the semifinals. 29-year-old Nguyen Xuân Son was the most impactful player for Vietnam, scoring three of the teams' four goals against Malaysia.
The second leg kicks off at 9:00 AM EST / 6:00 AM PST on Wednesday, August 27 in Ha Noi, Vietnam.
