The Milan Cortina Winter Games will be the largest Winter Olympics in history, with one new sport and multiple new competitions.

Roughly 2,900 athletes are expected to compete this winter in Milan, Italy - all in search of 116 gold medals which will be handed out across 16 different sports.

Ski Mountaineering will make it's debut as one of the fastest growing winter sports in the world. Women's large hill ski jumping and dual moguls will also be added to the program.

When are the 2026 Winter Olympics taking place?

The 2026 Olympics will begin on February 4th, and run through February 22nd.

The first medaled events will take place on February 7th, with alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, snowboard, and speed skating all featuring a medaled event.

The last four of the 116 total medals will be handed out on February 22nd - the same day as the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony will begin at 2:30 PM ET, and conclude an encore ending at 9:00 PM ET.

The Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony will take place on February 6th, and the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.

The ceremony will begin at 2:00 PM ET, and conclude around 5:00 PM ET (roughly three hours).
