Yorkshire have moved quickly to replace the injured Naveen-ul-Haq ahead of the beginning of the T20 Blast campaign.
The Afghanistan quick missed the T20 World Cup after suffering a stress fracture in his shoulder and will not return in time to honour his deal with the Headingley outfit.
In his absence, Yorkshire will instead lean on the experience of Pakistan international Hasan Ali.
Ali, 31, is well acquainted with the Blast having featured for Birmingham Bears in each of the last three seasons. He took 25 wickets at an average of 15.00 across his 12 matches during last year's tournament, guiding his side to the quarter-finals where they were eventually defeated by subsequent champions Somerset.
The 31-year-old is currently in fine form in the while representing Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), starring at the death to rescue the Kings from some precarious situations.
In fact, since the start of the 2024 season, Ali has an economy rate of 9.60 at the death; the second-best of any bowler to deliver 15 overs or more.
General Manager of Cricket for the White Rose, Gavin Hamilton said: “Whilst we’re naturally disappointed to not see Naveen join us this year, in Hasan we have an exceptional replacement.
“He arrives with a wealth of experience and a skillset that we believe will be invaluable to the group. We’re delighted to have secured someone of Hasan’s quality at such short notice, and everyone at the Club is looking forward to welcoming him to Headingley next month.”
Ali is expected to be available right throughout the group stage of the competition, alongside two County Championship matches against Warwickshire and Leicestershire.
