Initially organised by the BDO, the Winmau World Masters became a WDF event in 2022 but will be organised by the PDC from 2025 onwards, replacing the PDC's traditional January Masters tournament.
While the BDO/WDF Masters was typically played as set play, the PDC tournament was always contested via legs.
