In addition to the above, there are bonus points, whereby a player earns an extra point for scoring from a direct free-kick, as well as two bonus points for a player who scores more than four points and is selected by fewer than 5% of all teams.
Fantasy players are given a budget of $100m to spend on their squad (increasing to $105m for the knockouts), which must consist of two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.
Teams are restricted to a maximum of three players per country for the group stage and round of 32, increasing to four per country for the round of 16, five for the quarter-finals, six for the semi-finals and eight for the final.
Teams must adhere to the following formations: 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 5-4-1, 5-3-2.
Players are able to make unlimited changes to their team prior to the competition starting, but are given a limited number of transfers from there. Managers will be given two transfers after the first round of group games and two more after the second round of group games. Teams can be rebuilt in full with an unlimited number of transfers ahead of the knockout round.
From there, four transfers are given ahead of the round of 16 and the quarter-finals, with five given before the semi-finals and six before the final
Transfers can be carried over from one round to the next in the group stage, and transfers exceeding the allocated amount will incur a three-point penalty.
Unlikely the Fantasy Premier League game, changes can be made within a round. For example, if your captain in the round of 16 blanks, you have the option to change your captain to a player who hasn't yet played (double points would be forfeited for any player who loses the captaincy). Similar with substitutions, you can sub out poorly performing players for a sub who's yet to play.
There are additional 'boosters' available to use throughout the tournament. The Wildcard, familiar to many fantasy players, allows managers to make unlimited transfers ahead of a round.
The 12th Man booster allows you to select one extra player to score points for a given round.
The Maximum Captain gives managers double points from their highest scoring player, meaning a captain doesn't need to be manually selected for that round.
The Qualification Booster is available from the knockout rounds and grants two extra points to any player in the starting XI who progresses to the next round of the knockout stage (or wins the final).
