Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to win the race for Rennes star Jordan James with the Championship promotion hopefuls closing in on a £10 million deal.
New boss Cesar Peixoto has already been busy in the transfer window, securing the services of Raul Jimenez, Kieran Trippier, Ladislav Krejci and Rafiki Said.
Now, it is being reported that former Leicester City loan star James will be the next player through the door at Molineux.
According to reputable French sports outlet L'Equipe, James is set to join Wolves on an initial loan with an automatic obligation to turn the deal permanent next summer.
It's expected the 22-year-old will command a permanent transfer fee of around £10 million and would represent a significant coup for Wolves with a handful of Premier League sides having expressed interest in the creative midfielder.
James came through the youth ranks of Birmingham City and went on to make 105 appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals, before signing for Rennes for £4 million in August 2024.
He struggled to acclimatise to life in France though, failing to score in his 23 Ligue 1 outings, with the club subsequently granting him a temporary move to Leicester 12 months ago.
Despite their struggles in 2025/26, which culminated in relegation to League One, James further enhanced his own reputation by scoring 11 times in 34 appearances, prompting significant interest in his services this summer.
Newly-promoted Hull City and Brentford have both been mentioned as potential top-flight suitors, together with a large number of Championship clubs.
However, it's at Molineux that he looks set to continue his career with a deal expected prior to the closure of the window in just under two weeks time.
