Who is Badredine Bouanani? Rangers closing in on deadline day signing

As per reports, Algerian winger Badredine Bouanani is in the process of completing his medical ahead of a deadline day switch to Scottish giants Rangers.

While the Gers haven't enjoyed the best start to the 2026/27 campaign -- picking up seven points from a possible 12 in the Scottish Premiership and exiting the Conference League in the play-offs to Czech outfit Jablonec -- they certainly haven't lacked ambition in the transfer window.

Bouanani -- who will become Rangers' 13th arrival of the summer -- is set to join the club on a season-long loan, while the Scottish outfit will have the option to make the switch permanent next summer.

But what will the relatively unknown winger bring to Ibrox?

Find out below...

Age, nationality & background

Born in Lille, France to Algerian parents on 8th December 2004, Bouanani is 21-years-old.

Bouanani represented France at youth level but opted to play for the Algerian national team, with his father publicly supporting his choice to switch allegiances.

Transfer fee and contract

It's understood that Rangers will sign Bouanani on an initial season-long loan deal, but they will have the option to make his stay permanent next summer.

The value of the club's optional buyout clause is yet to be confirmed and should come to light once the initial loan switch is over the line.

What to expect from Badredine Bouanani

Position

Bouanani is naturally a right-winger, but he has plied his trade in attacking midfield and occasionally at centre forward.

Height, build & preferred foot

Standing at 5ft 10ins, Bouanani's slender build compliments his role as a direct and nimble winger.

He is naturally left-footed, preferring to cut in from the right-hand side onto his stronger foot.

Style of play

Bouanani thrives when given the license to express himself on the right flank, frequently starting wider before drifting inside with the ball to occupy a more central role.

He takes very intricate touches and keeps the ball very close to his feet when in possession, often luring defenders into a false sense of security before using a sharp burst of pace to beat his man.

The technical winger has a knack for picking out his teammates in space -- frequently switching play to create 1 v 1 scenarios for the left-winger -- but he is equally not afraid to be direct and go on his own when there is not as much space to work with.

His game priorities technical ability, and so, with a lean build at 5ft 10ins, he can be outmuscled in physical encounters, but he's a willing defender off the ball.

Career so far

Previous clubs

Bouanani emerged through the ranks with French outfit Lille between 2011 and 2021. He made eight appearances for the B side, but never featured in the senior setup before making the switch to Nice in 2022.

After impressing in the reserve setup at Nice, he featured regularly for the first time in the 2022/23 campaign, marking his first full season in men's professional football.

The winger scarcely featured in the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, so he made the loan switch to FC Lorient in the January, where he made 11 appearances.

He returned to Nice for the 2024/25 season, and after a promising campaign, made the switch to Bundesliga outfit in a deal worth a reported €15m.

He was an unused substitute in Stuttgart's 2026/27 opener against Bayern Munich as his Rangers move nears.

International caps

After playing for France at U16, U18 and U19 level, Bouanani opted to play for Algeria at senior level, where both of his parents were born.

He made his international debut on 23rd March 2023 -- providing the assist for Riyad Mahrez in a 2-1 win against Niger -- and has amassed five appearances for his country so far.
