What next for Daniel Dubois following dominant Fabio Wardley triumph

Daniel Dubois reaffirmed his status as Britain's leading heavyweight and strengthened his position among the division's elite with a brutal rout of compatriot Fabio Wardley.

In the hugely-anticipated rematch at London's O2 Arena, Dubois wrecked havoc right from the opening bell and the WBO champion floored Wardley inside the opening minute.

Wardley demonstrated resilience to get back on his feet, but the Ipswich man had no answer to the ferocity and accuracy of Dubois, who landed two devastating right hands in quick succession to prompt Wardley’s trainer Ben Davison to hurl in the white towel before referee Steve Gray put a stop to the contest.

It was an emphatic performance and one that enables Dubois to turn his attention to unification and some of the biggest names in boxing.

We've assessed who Dynamite might encounter in the ring next.

Daniel Dubois Potential Next Opponent

Filip Hrgovic

One potential opponent presented himself in the immediate aftermath of Saturday's fight as Filip Hrgovic climbed over the ropes to address Dubois as he celebrated his victory.

“It was easy night for Daniel,” he told DAZN. "So he’s ready to fight me in March, right Daniel?”

Dubois stopped the Croatian in June 2024, although Hrgovic dug out the old excuse book by claiming he was ill and injured in the build-up to the fight. Since then Hrgovic has steadily rebuilt his reputaton since and won the vacant IBF title by overcoming Moses Itauma in August.

Both fighters are keen for a rematch, but standing in the way of that is Cuba's Frank Sanchez, who is waiting as a mandatory challenger to Hrgovic's IBF title.

The two are likely to reacquaint in the ring at some stage, but it might not be for a while yet as Frank Warren plots staging Hrgovic's first defence in Croatia early next year.

Agit Kabayel

Elevated to WBC champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated, Germany's Agit Kabayel has picked up some impressive victories of late.

Sanchez, Zhilei Zhang and Arslanbek Makhmudov have fallen to the undefeated German, and Kabayel makes his first title defence against Albania's Nelson Hysa on 28th November.

If successful, the 34-year-old opens the door to a unification fight against Dubois, and Dynamite is in no mood to hang around of the opportunity presents itself to add another belt to his collection, while Kabayel will be eager to showcase his skills to the world in a high-profile bout.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua winner

The highly-anticipated clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is scheduled to take place in December, where the vacant WBA 'super' title will be at stake.

When discussing what could be next for Dubois or Wardley prior to Saturday's fight, Queensberry chief Warren didn't rule out the prospect of a potential clash against the victor of Fury vs Joshua.

Warren added that Dubois wants "big-money fights", while his team are aimed towards unifications: will Dubois get his wish of an extremely lucrative heavyweight showdown?

Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk's name was mentioned in the aftermath of Dubois' victory over Wardley, and Dynamite is eager to have one more crack at the undefeated Ukrainian great.

On a potential trilogy fight with Usyk, Dubois said: "Definitely, definitely, I'd love that. We're coming out on top this time. We've made our mistakes and we're coming out on top."

In the last encounter in July 2025, Usyk delivered a masterclass as put Dubois down twice in the fifth to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.

While Usyk's vacated all of his belts and is seemingly winding down, Dubois has come of age and Warren insisted he is keen to see Usyk "return to the equation".
