West Indies became the first ICC full-member nation to bowl 50 overs of spin in a one-day international as they restricted Bangladesh to 213/7 in Dhaka.
Famed for their pace attack, West Indies opted to forgo their fast bowlers and implement a unique approach on a testing pitch at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium by bowling spin in every single over, surpassing a record which was set by Sri Lanka when they delivered 44 overs of spin against Australia in 2004.
The visitors looked set to restrict Bangladesh to less than 200 runs, but a big-hitting finish from Rishad Hossain saw him pile on 39 runs from just 14 deliveries in the final 2.1 overs.
Soumya Sarkar was Bangladesh's top scorer with 45 off 89 balls, while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed an unbeaten 32 off 58 as he partnered Hossain in an impressive eighth wicket stand.
Gudakesh Motie claimed the most wickets of West Indies' quintet of spin bowlers as he dismissed Towhid Hridoy, Nasum Ahmed and Nurul Hasan, but Hossain's late flurry saw him concede 65 runs from his 10 overs.
Akeal Hosein and Alick Athanaze both contributed two wickets apiece, while Roston Chase and Khary Pierre completed their quota of 10 overs without obtaining a wicket.
All-rounder Justin Greaves, who was the only recognised pace bowler available to captain Shai Hope, went unused.
