Australia v Bangladesh Second Test Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

Australia have plenty to correct when they take on Bangladesh in the second Test at Mackay, having been humbled by nine wickets in the series opener in Darwin.

The Baggy Green were comprehensively outplayed by the Tigers in the Northern Territory and can now only rescue a drawn series by winning the first-ever Test match at the Great Barrier Reef Arena.

Australia have responded to their dismal loss by making just a single change to their XI, with Matt Renshaw recalled to replace fellow left-hander Jake Weatherald at the top of the batting order.

Australia v Bangladesh

Australia v Bangladesh Prediction

Best Bet: Highest match opening partnership - Australia @ 1.44

Despite Australia being thumped in the first Test and axing opening batter Weatherald as a result, they did enjoy the highest opening partnership of the match in Darwin.

The Baggy Green put on 45 for the first wicket in their first innings, before subsequent opening partnerships in the match totalled 36, 4 and 4 again and, with Renshaw in place alongside Travis Head and backed to go well, Australia can come out on top again in Mackay.

Of course, with only five first-class matches having been played at the venue, there is not too much evidence to draw from, but surely Pat Cummins and co will be desperate to put on a show and show their critics that the sands of time have not quite ticked away for his aging side.

Alternative Bet: Matt Renshaw - Top match batter @ 6.50

Renshaw started out as an opener before switching to a middle-order slot and then re-emerging on the international stage as a white-ball star, now he gets another opportunity at the top of the Aussie red-ball batting order.

As mentioned above, there is only a limited set of data to look to from previous matches at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, but in there Renshaw has made centuries in two previous knocks at the Queensland venue.

The left-hander made his maiden first-class century for Queensland back in 2016, racking up 170 against New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield, with his next knock in Mackay - in 2023 - seeing him take Victoria for 135 in the same competition.

Australia v Bangladesh Bet Builder Tip

  • Josh Hazlewood 4+ wickets

Having been humbled in the series opener in Darwin, Australia will be desperate to secure a drawn series by getting the job done in Mackay and their only two Test series defeats this decade have come at the hands of India, so expect Bangladesh to feel the backlash.

Tanzid Hasan played a pivotal role in the Tigers' success in Darwin, making a superb 101 in the first innings in what was only his third Test knock.

He may have fallen for a second-innings duck in the series opener, but he can impress once again in Mackay.

Finally, add in Josh Hazlewood to take 4+ wickets in the match, after the veteran pacer claimed seven in the match at Darwin to become the ninth Australian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets.
