Scott Parker's decision to reintegrate Soungoutou Magassa into the West Ham team has swung the door open for Edson Alvarez and Maxwel Cornet to return to the fold.
The duo were spotted participating in Parker's first training session since being named Nuno Espirito Santo's successor at the London Stadium on Wednesday.
Alvarez's season amounts to 75 minutes in an EFL Cup victory over Portsmouth in August as the Mexico midfielder was omitted from every one of Nuno's 20-man squads in the Championship.
Cornet has also failed to feature in any of West Ham's league fixtures so far this campaign, while Magassa's first minutes of the campaign arrived in the 3-3 draw against Cardiff City as Parker named him in his first starting XI as Hammers boss.
It was reported by The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg that Nuno's continued exclusion of both Magassa and Alvarez was a significant contributing factor in his demise.
Both players had sought moves during the summer transfer window following West Ham's relegation, but Nuno's reluctance to use either holding midfielder despite their central vulnerabilities prompted bewilderment in the dressing room.
Parker immediately addressed the issue with the reintroduction of Magassa against Cardiff, although his evening lasted just 45 minutes before he was withdrawn for Mohamadou Kante at half-time.
Alvarez did not travel with the squad for the trip to the Welsh capital, but it will be intriguing to see if the former Ajax midfielder has any form of involvement in this weekend's clash against Blackburn Rovers.
The 29-year-old featured in all but one of Mexico's World Cup fixtures in the summer, including England's famous 3-2 triumph at the Azteca in the last-16.
Cornet's availability would provide direct competition for Manor Solomon and Edvin Austbø on the left flank. The Ivorian last featured for the Hammers in April 2024 during a 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Adama Boiro, on loan from La Liga side Athletic Club, is another player to have been unexpectedly frozen out by Nuno.
The left-back came off the bench in the 3-0 win over Derby at the start of September and was an unused substitute in the triumph away at Bolton Wanderers, but the left-back hasn't been seen since. He is another who will be given an opportunity to plead their case for greater involvement under Parker.
