Scott Parker is set to be named the new manager of West Ham following Nuno Espirito Santo's sacking.
The club had kept faith with Nuno following their relegation from the Premier League, but the Portuguese coach was dismissed in the aftermath of back-to-back losses at the London Stadium against Southampton and West Brom which left the Hammers eighth in the Championship standings.
Performances and results ultimately fell significantly short of expectations with the West Ham hierarchy intent on sealing an instant return to the top flight.
Those ambitions have seen the Hammers board turn to former player Parker, who has been out of work since leaving Burnley by mutual consent last season, a week after relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
A three-time West Ham player of the year, Parker's prospective appointment is more than just a sentimental hire with the 46-year-old boasting an exemplary track record in the Championship.
Parker has won promotion from the second tier on three occasions with three different clubs having guided Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley to the Premier League.
His overall win ratio in the Championship, including play-off matches, stands at 55.3%, having won 78 of 141 Championship fixtures. Across three full seasons he has suffered only 21 defeats, of which 11 were with Fulham, eight with Bournemouth and two with Burnley.
Parker's points per match in the Championship works out at 1.94. Extrapolated over a full season, that works out at 90 points - enough to finish second in the 2025/26 campaign.
First venturing into management with Fulham midway through the 2018/19 campaign, Parker was unable to spare the Cottagers from relegation to the Championship, but he did orchestrate their immediate return to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Back-to-back defeats at the start of Project Restart hampered their automatic promotion bid and despite winning five of their last seven matches, they were forced to accept fourth, two points adrift of West Brom in second.
Conquering Cardiff City 3-2 on aggregate, Parker's Fulham defeated local rivals Brentford 2-1 after extra time courtesy of a brace from Joe Bryan.
Following a wretched Premier League campaign with the Cottagers, Parker returned to the Championship with Bournemouth in 2021/22 and the Cherries were the early pacesetters, winning 12 of their opening 17 fixtures.
A six-game winless slump from November to December resulted in Parker's men descending to third, but from early March onwards they occupied second behind his former club Fulham, who won the league by two points under Marco Silva.
Parker's Premier League chapter with Bournemouth was short lived, and after a brief failed spell with Club Brugge, the former England midfielder was able to redeem himself by orchestrating another Championship promotion campaign with Burnley.
While there were complaints about the tedious style, the Clarets joined an exclusive list of clubs to accrue 100 points as they lost only two league matches across the entire campaign.
Burnley also obliterated the record for fewest goals conceded in a Championship season, shipping just 16 goals as the Clarets chalked up an EFL record-equalling 30 clean sheets.
