Recent reports suggest that West Ham are eyeing an ambitious move for Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder James McAtee.
Following relegation from the Premier League last season, West Ham have already earned £85m in transfer sales, following Matheus Fernandes' move to Tottenham Hotspur, with a number of key players set to follow.
Ahead of their first season back in the Championship, the Hammers will likely have significant spending power, via parachute payments and player sales.
As a result, the Daily Mail are reporting that West Ham are interested in a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder James McAtee to replace the Portuguese.
McAtee, 23, only joined the Reds from Manchester City for a reported £30m last summer, but he could be set for a departure less than 12 months later.
The report doesn't mention whether any potential move to the Hammers would be on a permanent or temporary basis, however the Tricky Trees are notoriously hard negotiators in the transfer market and would likely be searching for at least their money back.
Should the Irons sign McAtee for that fee, it would represent a Championship record transfer, surpassing the money spent by Burnley to make Florentino's move permanent this summer.
Having been highly rated prior to his Forest switch, the 23 year-old struggled for form in his first season with the Garibaldi, scoring just one goal and registering two assists in his 26 matches across all competitions.
A product of the Manchester City youth academy, McAtee made 34 appearances for the Citizens - scoring seven times - and had a successful two-year loan stint with Sheffield United both in the Championship and the Premier League.
An England youth international, McAtee would have hoped his move the East Midlands would have put him in contention for the senior squad, however due to numerous factors, his move has yet to be any kind of success.
According to the Daily Mail's report, McAtee isn't the only player on West Ham's radar, with Famalicao midfielder Gustavo Sa, Troyes' Martin Adeline and Everton winger Dwight McNeil all also under consideration.
