The US Open is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year in tennis, with the hard courts at Flushing Meadows taking centre stage for a fortnight of action.
The world's best players gather in New York in August 2025 to try and land one of the sport's biggest prizes, with Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka aiming to defend their titles.
The US Open traditionally starts on the last Monday in August to allow the middle part of the tournament to coincide with the USA's Labor Day Celebrations, which in 2025 is on Monday 1st September.
The 2025 US Open will begin on Monday 25th August and conclude on Sunday 7th September.
Like at the other Grand Slams, play tends to begin late morning local time and continue into the evening.
With New York being five hours behind BST, play will likely start at around 16:00 BST in the UK.
The US Open has been contested on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, New York since 1978.
Prior to that, the tournament was held on grass, primarily at the West Side Tennis Club, between 1881 and 1974. It remained at the venue from 1975 to 1977, although during this period it was contested on clay.
Jimmy Connors is the only individual to have won the US Open on all three surfaces, triumphing on grass in 1974 and clay two years later, before clinching his final three titles in New York on the hard courts in 1978, 1982 and 1983.
After winning the 2024 Australian Open, Sinner claimed his second Grand Slam title by beating American Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5.
In the women's tournament, Sabalenka also backed up her success in Melbourne by winning in New York.
The Belarusian, who lost the 2023 final to Coco Gauff, went one better by beating another American, Jessica Pegula, 7-5 7-5.
Prize money for the 2025 competitions is yet to be officially confirmed, but it is expected to be the same or similar to 2024, which saw both the men's and women's champions take home $3.6m.
The runners-up were compensated with $1.8m each and the beaten semi-finalists earned $1,000,000, with the prize pot shared equally across the men's and women's tournaments.

Connors, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer have all won five men's singles US Open crowns in the open era.
Before that, Richard Sears, William Larned and Bill Tilden each won the event seven times during the amateur days. Impressively, Sears' septet came in as many years, with his first win in 1881 and last in 1887.
Molla Mallory, an amateur, was the most successful player in the women's tournament's history, winning eight titles.
In the open era, both Chris Evert and Serena Williams won the US Open on six occasions.
Each enjoyed runs of three titles, with Evert dominating for four years between 1975 and 1978, while Williams reigned from 2012 to 2014.
