Italian Open previous winners list

The Italian Open, which takes place annually on clay courts during the second week of May, is an ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event.

Since the Italian Open became an established ATP Masters 1000 tournament in 1990, Spaniard Rafael Nadal has won the most titles by far with 10 to his name.

The best clay court tennis player of all time, Nadal won seven Italian Open titles in nine years between 2005 and 2013, with the Spaniard losing in the final to Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Serbian Djokovic has won the second most men's singles titles at the Italian Open since 1990 with six, losing in the final on a further six occasions.

The only other multiple-time winners of the Italian Open since 1990 are Thomas Muster, Jim Courier and Alexander Zverev.

Since 1990, three female players have won four Italian Open titles - Gabriela Sabatini, Conchita Martinez and Serena Williams.

Spaniard Martinez remarkably won the tournament in four successive years between 1993 and 1996.

Two other icons of women's tennis - Maria Sharapova and Iga Swiatek - have both acquired three Italian Open titles.
