Sunderland have reportedly joined the race to sign German striker Derry Scherhant from SC Freiburg this summer.
Scherhant joined Freiburg from Hertha Berlin last summer for a fee of €2 million after the Bundesliga side triggered the player's release clause.
His first season at the club saw a modest return of seven goals in 49 apperances across all competitions.
The former German Under 21 forward is believed to be on the radar of Ipswich Town, but On The Minute have now reported that Sunderland are keeping tabs on the player's situation.
It is claimed that a fee of around the £15 million mark could be required if Freiburg are to part ways with last summer's acquisition.
Sunderland enjoyed a remarkable season back in the Premier League in 2025/26 as they finished seventh in the top-flight.
As a result, Regis Le Bris' men will play in the UEFA Europa League this season and the club are in the market for attacking reinforcements to create greater depth.
Le Bris has the likes of Brian Brobbey, Wilson Isidor and Nilson Angulo at his disposal, but he will want more options as he juggles a more congested fixture schedule.
