Sheffield Wednesday & Blackburn Rovers eyeing swoop for Huddersfield Town striker

Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers are reportedly battling to sign Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor.

Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke reported that "Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers are both lining up a summer swoop for Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor".

He added that, after a successful loan spell with Wigan, he "could now get the chance to move to the Championship with Blackburn", while "ambitious Sheffield Wednesday have also identified him as a clear target, as they look to bounce back to the second tier at the first attempt".

Taylor has enjoyed quite the ascent in English football since featuring for King's Lynn Town and Wroxham, earning his first big move when joining then Championship outfit Peterborough United in November 2021.

Initially joining forces with the club's U23 setup, the striker had his first taste of second tier football when featuring as a substitute against Bournemouth, Stoke City, Swansea City and QPR in the latter stages of the 2021/22 term.

Despite failing to impress in the first half of the 2022/23 League One campaign, Luton Town signed Taylor for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2023, where he would play six times in the club's Championship promotion-winning season.

After recording 13 goal contributions in the first half of the 2023/24 term on loan with League Two side Colchester, Luton recalled the forward and sent him out loan with Lincoln City, where he enjoyed similar success, netting 10 times in 19 games.

His return to the Championship with the Hatters was underwhelming, as was his second half of the 2024/25 season after joining Huddersfield on a permanent deal in the January of 2025.

The Terriers trusted Taylor to turn his luck around in the 2025/26 season, and while he did score four goals in 19 third tier games, he was once again shipped out on loan, this time to Wigan Athletic.

A third succesive successful loan stint saw him score 11 goals in the second half of the campaign for the Latics, and multiple EFL outfits are reportedly set to launch a pursuit for the 23-year-old.
