York City and Crawley Town will officially kick-off their 2026/27 campaigns on Monday evening when the pair lock horns in the preliminary round of the EFL Cup.
The hosts return to the competition for the first time in a decade after securing a return to the Football League in dramatic fashion in May, whilst their opponents staved off the threat of relegation to the National League by the narrowest of margins.
The Minstermen are now under the guidance of former Crawley boss Scott Lindsey who faces an immediate showdown against his ex-employers, just a week after agreeing to take over the York managerial reins from Stuart Maynard who surprisingly departed the club following promotion.
